Stop-Motion Map Drawing

I made a stop-motion animation while working on the multi-part map I drew for my senior exhibition in 2009. It was probably the first map I made in this style, so it's interesting to see how different my technique was then.

  1. This is such a great approach to your maps. Like seeing the process.

  2. I'm interested to know a bit more how your technique has evolved: is it just different in the final product, or has the process itself changed?

  3. Hi Jeremy,

The process is still pretty similar, but the newer, denser maps have fewer really unique houses, and more of a regular layout, so the process probably looks less creative and more like an algorithm. I tend to start with bridges these days, and stay in one place for longer instead of branching all over like in this video. Basically, the final product is so different that the technique has to be different.
I'm really looking forward to making another animation of the newer maps, and maybe that will help answer your question as well.
